Pots & Water Features

Premier Outdoors uses custom glazed pots and water features to create outdoor spaces that feel distinctive and highly personalized.

Water features and custom pots serve a specific role in landscape design: they create a focal point that anchors a space and gives it a sense of permanence and personality. A well-placed glazed pot grouping at a front entry sets the tone for the entire property before a visitor reaches the door. A small pond with a waterfall built into a stone wall turns a corner of the backyard into something genuinely memorable. These aren't afterthoughts — they're the details that make outdoor spaces feel designed rather than assembled.

Pond construction is one of the more technically demanding services we offer, and it's one Premier Outdoors has a strong track record in. A koi pond requires proper excavation to the right depth, a quality liner with appropriate overlap and anchoring, the correct filtration and aeration system for the fish load, and careful attention to the planting and rock work around the edge so the pond integrates naturally with the surrounding landscape. We build ponds in a range of sizes and configurations — from small decorative features to larger koi ponds with waterfalls, bog sections, and underwater lighting.

Multi-level glazed pot water features are a lower-maintenance alternative to in-ground ponds that deliver the movement and sound of water without the excavation or filtration requirements. A well-chosen sequence of glazed pots — stacked at different heights with water circulating from the top vessel down through each level — creates a striking entry feature or patio focal point that runs on a small recirculating pump and requires minimal upkeep. We source custom glazed pots in a range of sizes, colors, and finishes and design the arrangement to match the scale and style of the space.

Lighting is almost always part of any water feature installation we do. Submersible LED fixtures placed beneath the surface of a pond or at the base of a waterfall create an effect at night that's completely different from what the feature offers during the day. Underwater lighting extends the enjoyment of a water feature into the evening hours and is particularly well-suited to properties used for entertaining. We integrate the lighting system into the overall low-voltage landscape lighting plan so everything runs from the same controller.

FAQ

Pots & Water Features — Common Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our Pots & Water Features service.

Can you build a koi pond in any size yard?

Koi ponds can be designed for a range of yard sizes. A minimum depth of around 3 feet is needed for koi health in Alabama's climate, and the surface area should match the fish load you intend to keep. We assess the available space, sun exposure, and proximity to trees during the estimate and recommend a size and configuration that will work well long-term.

Do water features require a lot of ongoing maintenance?

In-ground ponds with koi require regular maintenance — filter cleaning, water quality testing, algae management, and winterization. Glazed pot water features are much lower maintenance, requiring only periodic cleaning of the pump and occasional top-off from water evaporation. We discuss maintenance expectations honestly as part of the design process so clients choose a feature that fits their lifestyle.

Can you add lighting to an existing water feature?

Yes. We install submersible LED lighting in existing ponds and water features as a standalone project. We also retrofit lighting into existing pot features. If the property already has a low-voltage landscape lighting system, we can tie the water feature lighting into that system.

What is the process for designing a custom water feature?

We start with a site visit to assess the location, sun exposure, drainage, and how the feature will integrate with the existing landscape. From there we discuss style preferences, scale, fish or no fish, lighting, and budget. We then provide a clear scope of work and timeline before any installation begins.
